The Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat (Part 3 of 3)

While writing the 3rd and final installment of The Thrill of Victory and The Agony of Defeat, I realized that I could go a bunch of ways. There was Gary Russell, the American boxer who didn’t make his weight at the final weigh-in before competition, or Tyson Gay, the American track star that went to the games as the favorite for 3 gold medals and left with nothing. But instead I chose to post a story (written by Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports) that exemplifies why the Olympics are so special. Here’s the inspirational story of Samia Yusuf Omar (above), a sprinter, from the poor, war-torn, country of Samalia.
