Where Were You On September 11th, 2001?

Before September 11th 2001, it was just the 254th day of the year (255th in a leap year) …nothing special… then just like that … two planes hit the World Trade Center Towers, they crash down, thousands dead, lives lost, and we now know of that day as simply… 9/11.  As I sit here 7 years later I think about where I was when this happened and when I found out.  I was on my way to Algebra 2 Class, and somebody came running past me saying…”haha, the world trade center got bombed.”  I was like what the hell?  I went into my classroom and I saw one of the towers fall on TV, then a little bit later another fell.  I was 17 and ignorant then, so I made some jokes, didn’t understand why people were upset, and why parents were taking their kids out of school!  As the day went on, we didn’t have class we just watched CNN all day!  I was sick of it!  Until, I heard the news about the Pentagon (I had an Aunt that worked there) and that the plane that crashed in Shanksville, PA circled over Weirton, WV (10 minutes from my hometown) twice!!  Then all my jokes and stupidity … turned into sadness and speechlessness, when I realized how close I was to the situation.  My parents always talked about their “History Book” moments, Martin Luther King being shot, the Kennedy assassinations, Vietnam, etc.  And I was always jealous that I didn’t have one … and at that time I’d wished I never had one…
